We were able to see students walk in and talk to us about their doubts and concerns. Through this program Hope Torch was able to find new chapters as well.
Women's Empowerment through Tailoring
Vision: Empowering the ladies of the community to continue to grow their skills and interests.
Demographic: Women ages 35-55
I thought of organizing a tailoring program for the community, so ladies can be doing some work while also earning some extra income.
Initially, the ladies were not interested. It took three months just to get the program up and running! They always gave reasons to escape. That's why I chose the objective "Not Looking for Escape". We started an attendance contest and they became regular. Some of them reworked their personal schedules to make time for the classes!
I also chose the objective "Concentration" because they had a difficult time with concentrating. We conducted concentration games and have seen real improvement.
One lady, named Kuseema, was originally not interested. However, in the International Women's Day event, she won certificates and had shown real growth! It[s exciting to hear these stories as well stories of their families encouraging them to improve their skills.
Wholesome Health Program
Vision: People understand the importance of caring for their eyesight
Demographic: Primarily children as well as ages 35+
The program aims at helping community members to get their eyes tested.
We saw the community members walk in along with their families getting tested, taking advice for further procedures, and also buying spectacles.
We as Hope Torch will continue to follow up with the community in the hopes to see more of the community members complete the follow-up procedures advised by the doctor and keep their health in check.

G7 After School
Vision: Middle School kids to discover more about themselves and a desire for self-improvement
Demographic: Grade 7 Students, ages 12-15
I am very pleased to be a program coordinator for this program. And having a program with these Grade 7 kids has made me glad.
Initially, the kids were trying to escape the program and run away. I started an attendance contest, and the kids started coming regularly.
Through these fun activities in the program, the kids have made their relationships stronger. Also, their relationship with me has grown too.
Slowly kids are learning good things and knowledge about themselves. They try to change and improve themselves in a good way. And they are having fun in this process as well.
