Vision: The Women of the Community are taking their tailoring skills to the next level.
Demographic: Women's Empowerment. Women ages 30-55 who have not been in the workforce for a long time..
The women have already developed their basic tailoring skills. Now with Aari work, their marketability is only increasing.
It is exciting to see how these women are embracing the challenge of making some money, starting a business, and being that support for their families.
Vision: After education has completed, gaining entry into the workforce is a challenge for many reasons. We hope to provide the community with the skills they feel are needed to compete.
Demographic: Youth Seeking Growth Opportunities. Men and women ages 23-40.
Term 1 focuses on computer skills required in interviewing for a job requiring basic computer skills. We hope our youth can become comfortable with all computer shortcuts, email, and typing speeds of at least 30wpm.
Term 2 will focus on the common industry apps such as Google Docs, Sheets, and Canva. Google Docs will be used for creating letters and contracts. Google Sheets for budget and financial calculations. Canva for marketing skills.
Vision: People understand the importance of caring for their eyesight
Demographic: Commmunity Care. Elderly and disabled in the community.
The program aims at helping community members to get their eyes tested.
We saw the community members walk in along with their families getting tested, taking advice for further procedures, and also buying spectacles.
We as Hope Torch will continue to follow up with the community in the hopes to see more of the community members complete the follow-up procedures advised by the doctor and keep their health in check.
Vision: Students sometimes need that extra push to complete their education.
Demographic: Student Focus on the Future. Ages 18-22
After Grade 10, the pressure to complete education is no longer there in most low-income communities. The students are on their own and must balance a challenging environment with higher studies.
Our hope is that keeping kids progressing in their education can create that momentum to carry them forward, even during the difficult stretches.

Women in the ages of 30-60. These women are usually homemakers or part-time workers. Women in these communities are often married young and fit into a routine within the patriarchal community.
Our goal is to empower these women with confidence in themselves and a belief that they have not yet reached their potential contribution to their community.
Our steps to developing each participant are:
Skill Development
Validation of Effort and Outcome
Seeking Personal Growth or Entrepreneurship
Students working towards their G10-Degree programs. Often students in these communities drop out after Grade 10 board exams.
Our goal is to motivate and empower these students to make decisions based on their futures, not only their immediate needs, fears, and emotions.
Our steps to developing each participant are:
Grade 10 Boards
PUC Completion
Degree or Diploma Completion
Working professionals ages 25-40. Often these are singles or newly married. In these communities, due to fewer opportunities coming out of education, these individuals take any job they can find. Salaries are low, working conditions are not good, and growth opportunities are limited. They quickly fall into a routine of seeking daily income and escaping the challegnes of adulthood.
Our goal is to motivate these individuals to seek growth in their career, in their families, and in themselves.
Our steps to developing each participant are:
Professional Development
Community Participation
Community Focus
Elderly, disabled, and disconnected. These communities rarely have a support system for individuals who are disconnected from family. When needs arise, often they are neglected.
Our goal is to give these individuals purpose while inspiring the community to care for their own in such conditions.
Our steps to developing each participant are:
Awareness of Needs
Self-Care
Care for Others
Vision: Empowering the ladies of the community to continue to grow their skills and interests.
Demographic: Women's Empowerment. Ladies ages 35-55
I thought of organizing a tailoring program for the community, so ladies can be doing some work while also earning some extra income.
Initially, the ladies were not interested. It took three months just to get the program up and running! They always gave reasons to escape. That's why I chose the objective "Not Looking for Escape". We started an attendance contest and they became regular. Some of them reworked their personal schedules to make time for the classes!
I also chose the objective "Concentration" because they had a difficult time with concentrating. We conducted concentration games and have seen real improvement.
One lady, named Kuseema, was originally not interested. However, in the International Women's Day event, she won certificates and had shown real growth! It[s exciting to hear these stories as well stories of their families encouraging them to improve their skills.
Vision:
Demographic: Women's Empowerment, Ages 22-45
The program works with students who do not attend tuition. It is an opportunity to clarify their doubts. The program focused on Math and science weekly twice for 1 and half hours.
We were able to see students walk in and talk to us about their doubts and concerns. Through this program Hope Torch was able to find new chapters as well.
Vision: The program aims to reach people to showcase their interests in various fields in terms in ways they can express. Through this program HT is looking forward to new programs stemming from the group interests.
Demographic: Women's Empowerment. All ages.
Vision: Students sometimes need that extra push to complete their education.

Vision: Middle School kids to discover more about themselves and a desire for self-improvement
Demographic: Grade 7 Students, ages 12-15
I am very pleased to be a program coordinator for this program. And having a program with these Grade 7 kids has made me glad.
Initially, the kids were trying to escape the program and run away. I started an attendance contest, and the kids started coming regularly.
Through these fun activities in the program, the kids have made their relationships stronger. Also, their relationship with me has grown too.
Slowly kids are learning good things and knowledge about themselves. They try to change and improve themselves in a good way. And they are having fun in this process as well.
